Report: Dozens Hospitalized After Alternative Rock Concert
May 23, 2004The Associated Press is reporting that nearly 50 people were sent to area hospitals, and more than 200 others were treated for heat exhaustion Saturday (May 22) at a Washington D.C. concert that included performances by PAPA ROACH and THE OFFSPRING.
The daylong HFStival, sponsored by local alternative rock radio station WHFS-FM, featured acts performing on several stages. Among the other artists that played at RFK Stadium were THE CURE, JAY-Z and THE VIOLENT FEMMES.
Thousands of concertgoers crowded on to the stadium field in sweltering heat, and danced violently in several mosh pits. The most serious injuries came out of those pits, city Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Alan Etter said.
One 18-year-old man was treated for chest pains and several other people suffered broken or dislocated bones.
